2015 The Longest Day

For the third consecutive year the ACBL is a global partner of The Longest Day, a fundraising event sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. Held annually on the summer solstice, The Longest Day symbolizes the challenging journey of those with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.
In the last two years bridge players have donated more than $1 million to research and care, but there is still more work to be done in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

The number of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias is expected to escalate rapidly in the coming years as the baby boomer generation ages. Barring the development of medical breakthroughs to prevent, slow or stop the disease, by 2050 the number of people with Alzheimer’s disease
may more than triple from 5 million to as many as 16 million.

Together we can make a difference.

First, visit acbl.org/longestday to learn more, and then register your club to participate. Use the discount code “ACBL” to waive the registration fee. Games played for The Longest Day qualify for upgraded masterpoints. Read the FAQ for more information.

Then, receive a toolkit containing: Team Captain Guide, fundraising and operations instructions, flier templates, publicity tools and a co-branded ACBL/The Longest Day t-shirt.

Clubs – Hold as many bridge games as possible/desired between 12:00 a.m. on June 21 and 11:59 p.m. on June 22.
Teachers – Hold introductory bridge classes open to the public. Offer them for free with a donation to The Longest Day.
Tournaments – Dedicate a table to The Longest Day and accept donations. Get the public involved by offering free lessons.

The Longest Day is the perfect opportunity to raise bridge’s profile in your community, attract media attention, and most importantly, do something you love for a good cause. For people facing Alzheimer’s disease, the challenge is every day. Show the world we’re in it until Alzheimer’s is finished. Learn more about how you can get involved at www.acbl.org/longestday.
