For the third consecutive year the ACBL is a global partner of The Longest Day, a fundraising event sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. Held annually on the summer solstice, The Longest Day symbolizes the challenging journey of those with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.
In the last two years bridge players have donated more than $1 million to research and care, but there is still more work to be done in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
The number of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias is expected to escalate rapidly in the coming years as the baby boomer generation ages. Barring the development of medical breakthroughs to prevent, slow or stop the disease, by 2050 the number of people with Alzheimer’s disease
may more than triple from 5 million to as many as 16 million.
