Trump Alzheimer’s on The Longest Day

Sign_up_posterFor the fourth consecutive year, the ACBL is a Global Partner of the Alzheimer’s Association event, The Longest Day.

We encourage clubs, teachers, tournaments and even social groups to form fundraising teams to raise awareness and funds for the support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. In return, the ACBL allows clubs to hold as many special games as desired between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on the summer solstice – this year the date is June 20. Visit www.acbl.org/longestday to learn more. Additional registration information will be sent in the coming weeks.

New in 2016, we’re excited to add another layer to the summer solstice event with a Canadian-specific fundraiser called Trump Alzheimer’s Contré. All the same rules apply, except Canadian participants register on a different site to ensure their funds are donated to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. The website will be live mid-March, and we’ll alert all Canadian members when registration is open!

If you’re just planning to play bridge for the summer solstice events, you’re missing a BIG marketing opportunity. We participate in these events because they give you a unique chance to share bridge with your larger community. Here are two things you can do to make the most of The Longest Day and Trump Alzheimer’s Contré events.

  1. Hold a Learn Bridge in A Day? or similar beginner course for the public. Make the class free with a donation and invite the families of Alzheimer’s patients to learn a game that could save their brain in the future. You don’t have to hold this class on the summer solstice!
  2. Designate an area of your club for social play only. Ask for a $20 donation per table for every two hours of play (or whatever price you deem appropriate). Let your local social bridge players join your silent auction, meals, etc. and show them that duplicate bridge players are a friendly, welcoming group they should join!

Marketing templates for both of these ideas are available in the Resource Center in the Clubs tab under The Longest Day. Trump Alzheimer’s Contré resources will be coming soon.
